A YEAR IN THE WILD
Real People. Real Places. Real Stories.
Some moments in the outdoors deserve to be remembered forever.
The first buck. The fish that almost got away. The sunrise nobody else saw. The old deer camp that’s been in the family for generations. The photograph of a father, grandfather, or friend who taught us what it means to love the outdoors.
Those are the moments that matter.
And those are the moments we want to preserve.
Introducing A Year in the Wild
A Year in the Wild is a planned annual photography book from Dead Head Outdoors, built around the photographs and stories of everyday outdoorsmen and women across the world.
We want to collect authentic photographs from the woods, the water, the mountains, and the places that mean something to you.
Not professional photography contests. Not staged perfection.
Just real moments and the stories behind them.
Our vision is to select photographs from community submissions and bring them together in a beautifully printed annual collection celebrating the outdoors.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome photographs featuring:
Hunting memories and traditions
Fishing adventures
Deer camps and hunting cabins
Wildlife and outdoor landscapes
Camping, hiking, and outdoor adventures
Family traditions and memories passed down through generations
Quiet moments that capture what the outdoors means to you
You don’t need an expensive camera or professional photography experience.
A meaningful photograph taken on your phone can tell just as powerful a story.
Every Photograph Has a Story
When you submit your photograph, tell us a little about it.
Where were you? Who was there? What happened? Why does that moment mean something to you?
Your story doesn’t have to be long or perfectly written. We want to hear it in your words.
Because sometimes the story behind a photograph is even more meaningful than the picture itself.
How It Works
1. Submit your photograph.
Upload your original outdoor photograph using the form below.
2. Tell us the story.
Share the memory behind the photograph, including where it was taken and why it matters.
3. We review submissions.
Dead Head Outdoors will review photographs for potential inclusion in our annual photography collection and related editorial features.
4. Selected photographs may be published.
If selected, your photograph and story may appear in a future edition of A Year in the Wild. Contributors will be credited according to their submission preferences.
Submitting is completely free. Selection is not guaranteed, and contributors are not required to purchase the finished book.
Help Us Preserve the Outdoors, One Photograph at a Time
This project is about more than beautiful pictures.
It’s about the people, places, traditions, and memories that make the outdoors part of who we are.
Years from now, we want someone to open one of these books and see a piece of the outdoor life we shared.
Your story deserves to be remembered.
